Just a pronunciation note. When Sam calls Mercedes “Cedes” he pronounces it
like Sadie or “say-D” or “say-dee”. Hopefully this makes sense - haha. Enjoy
the chapter! Reader discretion is advised.
"Quinn's
right Cedes," Sam revealed to her and palmed her cheek feeling an uplift
of clarity and want in him. He began once they finally came up for air but
slightly away from each other as they felt their ragged breaths upon each
others’ lips, "I'm…”
“I
know,” Mercedes returned a soft smile as
she saw, heard, and felt everything Sam proclaimed to be true. She said as she
looked into his royal blue eyes and gently weaved her hand through his shaggy
blond hair. She watched as Sam leaned closer to her with a huge grin on his
lips before closing her eyes and feeling them softly pressing against hers.
“I don't want to
go back,” she said once she innately positioned herself on top of him
again.
“Me
neither,” he replied back instinctively furthering light kisses down her chest
to smoothly roll her over – wanting to be on top.
*~*~*~*~*~*
Quinn Fabray’s
crimson Volkswagen bug was parked in its usual spot at the school parking lot.
Fifteen minutes – on the dot – before school started, she applied a light coat
of her ruby red lipstick on her lips as she waited for Sam to arrive. They had
a procedure to fulfill regardless of ones’ feelings. They were to walk to class
together as usual and with his recent departure from yesterday they still
needed to make up for their homeless drive as well as prepare for their
interview with Jacob in promoting their prom campaign. Quinn had noticed that
once the first bell had rung there was no indication of Sam…nor Mercedes. She decided to walk into
the hallway, not with embarrassment but with full force confidence, smiling to
those who need it and expect it because at the end of the day it’ll be her on the ballot as the number one
candidate for prom queen. She approached her locker to touch up that needed to
be touched up and began flipping through her schedule. She glanced through what
she had planned for the day until the final bell had rung – still Sam had yet
to be by her side.
“Mercedes not
here yet?” Tina asked Quinn as she sat down at her seat.
“I guess not,”
Quinn responded as she recollected a conversation she had with Mercedes a
couple of weeks ago.
"Are
you into him?" Quinn abruptly asked as she noticed Mercedes inquiry of her
relationship with Sam was getting a little more in depth.
"What?!...No!"
Mercedes blew off the question before shifting through which color paper she
wanted to draw on.
Quinn and Tina eyed Mercedes skeptically until
Tina shrugged her shoulders and started to draw while Quinn knew Mercedes had
something on her mind.
“Hey,” Quinn leaned in. She waited for Mercedes
to look up at her, "You know I consider you as a sister. So if you're into
him-"
"I'm not," Mercedes cut Quinn off – reassuring her she
was doing this for her. "Besides he really likes you. He wants to be your
boyfriend." Mercedes said as she began drawing a line which then led into
a curve.
"He's just a boy," Quinn sighed. “Besides,
remember our promise this year?”
Mercedes nodded with a recollection, “Junior year is our
year.”
Quinn softly smiled and held her hand out from under the
table. Mercedes grinned as she started the secret hand shake they shared over
summer break.
****
“For two,” the
waitress announced once Sam and Mercedes walked into Lima’s local diner.
First period at
McKinley High had already started but with stomachs constantly growling after
their overnight stay in the meadow, Sam and Mercedes decided they were in need
of breakfast before arriving to school today. They followed the waitress to an
empty booth and once they sat down Sam told Mercedes to splurge and get
whatever she wanted – its his treat! As Mercedes looked through the menu she
decided to get pancakes and so did Sam. Mercedes also decided to order a glass
of orange juice to drink whereas Sam decided…“Can I get a tall glass of milk please.” Mercedes looked at Sam
weirdly when the tall glass of milk arrived and incredulously eyed him once he
began chugging it.
“What?” Sam
wondered with a milk mustache above his lips and continued drinking.
“Now you have
milk breath,” Mercedes sipped her orange juice.
“Aaahh,” Sam
replied after taking another gulp and watching Mercedes laugh after sipping her
drink.
Their food
arrived along with the check. Sam instantly picked up the check and noticed how
much it was. It resulted in him to take out all of his money but he soon
realized he didn’t have enough. Mercedes glanced at Sam – dawning on her a new
guised expression: worry. She decided not to ask if everything was ok; instead
she peeked a glimpse of the amount on the check and saw what Sam placed on the
table. Without a question or a sigh of regret, Mercedes went into her purse and
found twenty dollars in her wallet and placed it on the table.
“What?...Cedes
no,” Sam began waving away her contribution before placing the bill on the
table.
“Sam it’s ok,”
Mercedes said, “look I’ll pay my half,” and placed the bill on the table.
Sam gave a tight
smile. He placed the money inside the black booklet and sat it up for the
waitress to pick up the bill. Sam and Mercedes finished their meal and left the
diner. As she stepped out of the diner, Mercedes checked her watch and realized
first period was almost over.
“I guess we
should head back,” she suggested as she held the time up to him.
“Yeah…ok,” Sam
agreed.
He noticed she
was beginning to walk first before reaching to take her hand. “I’m going to pay
you back,” he said once her steps had halted and slightly turned toward him. Mercedes
rolled her warm colored brown eyes as she looked up at him and began walking
again but felt Sam gently tightening his grip, “and take you out on a proper
date with a full three course meal!”
“Oh wow really!”
Mercedes smiled sarcastically.
“Yes really!”
Sam announced with a huge smile, “…and tell Quinn I don’t want to be with her
once we see her at school today,” he finished seriously. Mercedes breath
clenched before nodding solemnly. They began walking again – Sam not letting go
of Mercedes hand nor does she let go of his. They walked for a few steps of not
talking – maybe enjoying their full and satisfied stomachs or the cool wind and
warm rays of the sun peeping in and out of the gloomy gray clouds – until Sam
felt in his jacket pocket a coin-like object shifting in his untwined hand.
“Penny for your
thoughts,” Sam offered as he took out a penny and handed it to Mercedes.
He watched as Mercedes folded her palm around the penny returning
a small smile as she shifted the coin in between her fingers. Taking note of
her gesture, it instinctively made Sam grin back at her.
“It’s just…,”
Mercedes began contemplating as well as not really knowing how or what to tell
him.
“Its just…what?”
Sam responded nudging Mercedes to finish.
“I just don’t
think you should end it with her….”
“What do you
mean?” Sam stopped in his tracks.
“I just mean I
know how much Quinn wants to be prom queen. She wanted it last year before…”
“I know,” Sam
responded getting the hint. “But Cedes that’s what she wants.”
“I know…but she is
my home girl and isn’t this like doing what the guys did to you at your last
school. You know…hook-”
“Yea I get you
but,” Sam then turned in front of her, “what’s this really about Cedes?” he
placed each hand on the side of her temples.
Mercedes looked
up at his sea blue orbs not ready to tell the truth or more so be in the truth.
No, she had to admit to herself she was not ready for that.
RING
“Come on,” she
reached and grabbed one of his hands, “we’re going to be late.”
Sam and Mercedes
quickened their steps before the final bell rang for their next class period to
begin.
***
“Weird she missed
first period huh?” Tina walked out of art class with Quinn.
Quinn nodded.
“Maybe she needed to catch up on some things.” Tina and Quinn walked down the
hallway until they bumped into Kurt who had exciting news – his dad and Finn’s
mom were getting married! Tina and Quinn expressed how thrilled and excited
they were for him and his family that they each gave him a hug.
“Where’s
Mercedes?” Kurt asked surprisingly.
Quinn and Tina
shrugged their shoulders. “She wasn’t at first period today,” Tina informed.
“Oh,” Kurt said
sadly to them then shifted his gaze over them, “…oh there she is!” he pointed.
He saw Mercedes at the end of the hallway. Quinn and Tina turned around in
which Quinn immediately noticed Sam next to Mercedes. Kurt scurried in between
the crowded hallway to get to Mercedes with Tina and Quinn following close
behind him.
“MERCEDES!” Kurt
called out to her waving his hand.
It took Mercedes
awhile to hear her name being called out by Kurt but when she finally did hear
him, she immediately released Sam’s hand. Sam and Mercedes turned around and
saw Kurt approaching them followed by Tina and Quinn.
“Mercedes! Guess
what?!” Kurt asked enthused.
Mercedes looked
at Kurt wondering what’s the big news while Sam and Quinn glanced awkwardly at
each other. Sam then discreetly stepped closer to Quinn and whispered if they
could talk and saw her return a small nod.
“We’ll see you
guys later,” Quinn said after Kurt shared the news with Mercedes.
“Oh…we’re going
to need you and the girls to help us with setup and decorations,” Kurt entailed
before she left off with Sam.
“Of course,”
Quinn obliged as Kurt began instructing duties to Mercedes and Tina. As Kurt
sporadically thought of themed patterns and colors while Tina threw in
suggestions and ideas in between thought patterns, Quinn noticed Sam
unembarrassedly grab Mercedes hand for a final squeeze and a tight smile. She
glared at their comfort toward one another and immediately turned around before
seeing Mercedes return a tight smile to Sam. Quinn swiftly approached her
locker with ease while Sam, who was behind her, had to push his way through.
Quinn now had to remember to add ‘Wedding’
to her schedule along with the other duties she had already confirmed and
scheduled this week.
“Quinn…I-,” Sam
began as he followed her.
“So at 12 today
we’ll be finishing up with the homeless drive,” she began once she placed her
books and material in her locker then took out her schedule.
“I’m ending
this…with you,” Sam said quietly once he reached her at her locker.
“Then there’s
Jacob’s interview after. I wonder if he can be at the booth while we’re at the
drive?” Quinn placed the end of the pen to her chin ignoring what Sam just
whispered to her.
“Quinn…,” Sam
said a little bit louder, “I’m-”
“Ending this…,”
she turned her head to him with a coy smile, “I heard you the first time.”
Sam nodded his
head – content his relationship with Quinn ended smooth and swift – and proceeded
towards his locker.
“It’ll be a
shame,” Quinn began loudly, “for your father to suddenly lose his
job…especially with the holidays around the corner,” she finished with a sly
smile.
Sam halted his
steps before turning around. “You-”
“I would,” she finished
his sentence before returning back to write ‘Wedding’
on her schedule.
***
Sam was at
Mercedes house - now it being evening – and a little close to eight ‘o’ clock
with an episode of The Twilight Zone ending awhile ago. After the show
had ended, Sam started to tell Mercedes a partial truth of Quinn's intentions
–mostly telling her that his dad will get fired if he's not dating Quinn.
“But that
doesn’t make sense,” Mercedes said once Sam told her the news that he can’t
stop seeing Quinn. “Why would your dad get fired for you not dating her?”
Sam sighed then
honestly confessed, “My dad works for her dad.” He watched Mercedes nod
solemnly before looking down at the floor. “Cedes…I,” Sam began and started to
approach her – regardless of the front door ringing downstairs.
“It’s cool…,”
Mercedes replied then began stepping away. She heard her mom gesturing Kurt to
come into the house.
“Don’t do
that…,” Sam sighed.
“Do what?”
Mercedes shrugged her shoulders.
Sam pursed his
lips – knowing what Mercedes was avoiding just like before when they went to
school together earlier today.
Mercedes sighed
as she looked into his sapphire eyes in which she knew she could never escape
the truth from him. “I’m sorry,” she replied and walked closer to him.
“Don’t be,” Sam
said as he placed his hands on her hips. Mercedes rolled her eyes and scoffed.
She positioned herself in between his legs – inches from his lips and staring
boldly in his deep sea orbs. Sam brought her hips closer to his with a smirk.
Something within Mercedes dared not falter – actually she kind of liked it and
returned a small smirk back to him.
“Hey Mercedes!”
Kurt walked in then halted in his steps. Mercedes immediately unwound herself
from Sam whereas Sam still had his hands around Mercedes hips in which she
walked away from. Sam unabashedly stared at Mercedes’ behind as she quickly distanced
herself away from him.
“Hey!” Mercedes
called out and walked towards Kurt, “What’s up?” she smiled. She saw Kurt eye
her skeptically after he gazed at Sam incredulously.
“Uumm…so I went
crazy at the fabric store today…what do you think?” Kurt held up a fall floral
pattern. Mercedes glanced at it with Kurt then glanced back at Sam. Kurt eyed
that Mercedes was looking more at Sam then at the pattern. “There’s actually
more fabric in the car if you don’t mind getting Sam,” Kurt said
interrupting their gaze at each other.
“Yeah…ok,” Sam
replied and got up. When he passed Mercedes he placed his hand on the side of
her hip and slid it further down. “Never be sorry,” he told her before leaving
to get the fabric from Kurt’s car. Mercedes grinned and watched Sam walking
away from her with a smile beaming widely.
“Uummm…what is
going on between the two of you?” Kurt interrupted Mercedes gaze.
“Nothing,” she quickly
replied then returned her attention back to the pattern.
“Ms. Mercedes
Lexus Jones,” Kurt said quietly yet sharply, “if you don’t tell me what
really is going on between the two of you – you know your church going
mother, doctor father, and military brother would gladly like to
-,”
“Ok! Ok!,”
Mercedes waved at him to stop, “You didn’t have to bring Derek up,” she mumbled
quietly before rolling her eyes – Derek being Mercedes older brother whose
posted overseas. It’s said that he’s going to come over during the holidays,
but with chaos going on at the other side of the country – well…she nor the country
knew if he and his unit were going to come home this holiday season.
“Sam…and…I…are…friends,”
Mercedes carefully worded her statement.
“Oh…friends…”
Kurt replied surprisingly then noticed Sam bringing in the rest of the
patterns. “Sam what is going on between the two of you?” he gestured between
Mercedes and him.
“Oh well…,” Sam
began as he placed the fabric on the table. “I like Mercedes and I want to be
with her.”
“He likes you
and wants to be with you!” Kurt exclaimed sarcastically. He saw Mercedes eyes
grow wide as they were directed towards Sam. Then Kurt realized what Sam said
about the two of them were true. “Oh my gosh!”
“Shut up,”
Mercedes quieted Kurt.
“Oh my gosh!”
Kurt continued, “It’s true! First me, then my dad and Carole and now you,
but-,”
“Don’t say it,”
Mercedes tried to stop Kurt from saying it.
Kurt huffed and
pursed his lips, “well…this weekend it’s not about the three of you or any couples in any dilemmas or dramas. This weekend
is about my father and his new wife Carole – who happens to be Finn’s mother.”
“Got it,”
Mercedes saluted to Kurt who returned a stern nod before looking at patterns
and fabrics he had selected.

Mercedes
Jones adjusted her wedding dress Kurt had altered earlier today in the church
bathroom during his father’s wedding rehearsal. Quinn too came into the
bathroom to re-alter her dress she had professionally tailored yesterday for
the upcoming wedding. It didn't take long for Quinn to notice Mercedes – as she
too was adjusting her dress – when after a sneer and an intended notion of
thought she promptly asked, “What will happen when prom is over?” Quinn watched
as Mercedes glanced up at her. Quinn knew what she was doing – specifically
asking and instigating Mercedes that once the girls know that Sam is a free
agent they'll all be clawing for him and do what they usually do. "It's
actually pretty sickening,” Quinn began as she began readjusting her dress, “of
them flaunting their jewels in front of him with me standing right next to
him.” Mercedes watched Quinn finish primping herself in front of the mirror.
“No morals these girls," Quinn completed as she gave a final approval
check then stepped out before giving Mercedes a subtle smile. After watching
her leave, Mercedes shifted her gaze of a full body reflection of herself in
the mirror. The ten percent got the
better of me again, her nescient mind rapidly engulfed in flooded awareness
of self-conscious thoughts of her unexplained yet ever persistent relationship
with Sam.
That night, Sam came over as usual. He continued with the same
complaint about Quinn but Mercedes wasn’t really paying attention. As he
complained, Sam noticed Mercedes looking out into space then asked if she was
alright. Mercedes replied with a lie that she hadn’t really been feeling well
after the wedding rehearsal. "Maybe it's something I ate earlier,"
she said. She felt Sam checking her temperature, hoping she felt warm enough
once he placed his hand on top of her forehead. “Well you do feel slightly
warm,” Sam checked. Mercedes asked if they could call it a night. Sam glanced
at his watch seeing it’s only about to be seven and knew they only had one more
episode to watch. Mercedes then promised they could catch up over the weekend –
“maybe after the whole wedding festivities”. Sam nodded before departing –
hoping that she'll at least feel better tomorrow.
A couple days passed since Mercedes called it an early night the
last time Sam came over. He walked over to her house the next evening as usual
– this time with a bowl of chicken soup – but was instead greeted by Mrs.
Jones. She informed him that Mercedes was out with Kurt helping with the
wedding. For Mercedes having the wedding take up her time and energy, she – in
fact – didn’t mind making it her number one priority not only for Kurt, but
also for Mr. Hummel and Finn’s mom – Carole; honestly though, it was really for
herself. After her run in with Quinn during the wedding rehearsal…and well...yeah…after noticing girls
purposely flaunting themselves at Sam…she had to admit she was
intentionally ignoring him and purposely covering it up by spending more time
with Kurt. Her
feelings for Sam were beginning to become mixed as days spent away from him
were filled with frequent trips to the mall with Kurt. After hearing Quinn’s
take of girls coming up to Sam she didn't know whether to be mad, upset, or even
happy about Sam and Quinn being “officially together” to the public. She knew
she was over reacting especially since she declared and knew he wouldn’t be her
type. But it was fun having
someone interested in the same random show she watched, she
thought thinking about Sam. Mercedes walked into a men’s clothing store with
Kurt one evening after finding decorations for the wedding, when suddenly Kurt
asked her if she knew if Anthony had RSVP’d for the wedding yet. "You know
you can ask him," Kurt persuaded as he spotted Anthony in the shirt
section while they were in the suits section – wondering if Mercedes had
noticed too. "I invited Blaine but he said he couldn't make it," Kurt
continued nonchalantly eyeing which color to choose for the groomsmen.
RING
Mercedes reached in her purse feeling her phone alarm buzzing
and ringing. She clicked the off button once she saw it was seven 'o' clock.
She sighed as it was becoming usual she would be missing The
Twilight Zone. She then glanced around the store before noticing Anthony
looking through some shirts. He too glanced up – not noticing her at first but
when he did gave a polite smile with a small wave. Mercedes too returned the
same smile and gesture before her sight shifted towards Kurt who was still
contemplating on colors. She decided to walk over to him and when she reached
over to him she asked if he was going to the wedding. Anthony replied with a
nod informing her the whole team were going except Karofsky and Azimo.
It was the fourth day Sam had turned off his watch alarm once it
rang seven ‘o’ clock. He too sighed he was missing The Twilight Zone, but not more dismayed of
not seeing Mercedes as usual and feeling it becoming less often. He grew more
perturbed when he would try to schedule to meet with her at least after school
before rehearsal for them to go somewhere – anywhere – where it was just the
two of them. He even made sure he had enough money if she wanted to go back to
the diner heck even making it a twofer – lunch, dinner, breakfast, next day,
same day, whatever – it didn’t matter, as long as it was the two of them like
before. Sam liked, actually, loved his time with Mercedes – particularly when
they finally got back together. They weren’t back together back together in the
public’s eye, but in regards to the two of them – he knew and she knew – they
were officially
together. However for Sam, he was beginning or more like sensing a pattern.
When ninety percent of him and Mercedes would be fully together, ten percent of
something would unexpectedly form a separation between the two of them. He
thought over daily what had happened the last time he was officially with her. What had triggered it this time?
He continued to think when he was not with her.
Sam was with Quinn at the mall with his younger brother and
sister near the train ride when his crystal blue eyes shifted his gaze above.
He saw a mahogany skinned beauty he had missed for a few days walk out of a
men’s clothing store with a chestnut complexion guy who did not resemble anyone
to be Kurt. Mercedes walked closer to the upper level rail with Anthony unaware
of Sam’s gaze. “You alright?” Quinn asked once she realized his immediate cease
in picking up his brother. She too saw Mercedes and Anthony talking as she
picked up Stacey. Sam returned a firm nod before picking up Stevie and placing
him on the train ride with his sister.
Kurt again went overboard on his purchases as usual before
meeting Mercedes and Anthony near the store’s entrance. He too asked and more
like wanted to confirm with Anthony if he has sent his RSVP to the wedding.
Anthony nodded before ending his conversation with Mercedes and telling them he
will see them this weekend.
***
"So, you went shopping," Sam asked suspiciously after
one of Mercedes trips to the mall. He came over with another bowl of chicken
soup when he was caught off guard, but a little turned on, to see Mercedes in a
dress too formal for the wedding.
"It was Kurt's idea," Mercedes shrugged indifferently.
Sam followed her to the kitchen where he watched her place the bowl of soup on
the kitchen counter.
"Oh...well that definitely looks hot on you then" Sam
nodded with a smirk. He stepped closer to her to wrap his arms around her. He
knew as much as he was upset with her, from the few days that had passed
between them and seeing her at the mall, that it was a choice to be because he
was beginning to understand that ten percent thing that innately separated
them. "So what was the occasion," he gently slid her closer to him.
"Prom," she simply replied.
"But I made that deal with Quinn," he scrunched his
eyebrows together.
"So...," Mercedes shrugged. "...I know you guys made the deal
but it doesn't mean I can’t go.”
"So you're saying your going to prom alone?"
"Well...not exactly."
RING
Sam glanced where the direction of the ring was coming from. He
followed Mercedes into her room beginning to help her find her phone. Her phone
finished ringing then beeped indicating a message was left. Sam was able to
find Mercedes’ phone first once it flashed a text message from Kurt under some
clothes… however soon after…well
let’s just say that ten percent between them appeared…
"What the hell is this?!" Sam raised his voice – inhibiting
his anger as it intensified within him. His sapphire eyes pierced daggers at
her phone before holding it up to her that it had notified a couple of text
messages Anthony had recently sent. Mercedes turned around staring closely at
her phone before inhaling a deep breath – thinking of an explanation.
“It’s nothing,” she kept her glance down towards her phone
shifting her eyes back and forth hoping this didn’t turn out to be a huge deal…wrong.
“Nothing…,”
Sam shrieked, “really Mercedes…,” Sam began biting his lips and scratching his
chin, “we’re really doing this…we’re
really going there,” he was pacing his steps from side to side really trying hard
to not have his mind be infuriated with her…but yeah…he couldn’t help it…“You know Mercedes,
I really tried hard to –”
“I don't want anyone else to know about us!" Mercedes voice
broke with a clear yet gut wrenching declaration that carried into the hallway.
Finally, she confessed not only to herself but also finally to Sam.
"Look...at me,” she continued confessing as she was beginning to come into
a slow realization of an insecurity of why he or someone who remotely looked
anything like him would never be her type,
“and look at you. This...us...it shouldn't be."
“Not this excuse,” Sam huffed – shaking his head.
“Why not?” Mercedes rolled her eyes confused and shrugged. She
placed the phone down on her night stand and headed towards the bathroom
beginning to take her accessories off. She was finally coming to terms with her
reason – her decision – now he needed to respect that.
“Because you know it’s bullshit,” Sam declared to her honestly
stopping Mercedes in her tracks. His admiral colored eyes didn’t waver from
hers as she turned around. He continued to look into her deep umber orbs not as
a means to convince but of reassurance.
“All of this is bullshit,” he again repeated but this time a
little lower, a little softer, and a little calmer as he slowly walked up to
her and placed one of his arms around her waist. He squeezed the side her hip, hoping
a small hug showed her his reassurance. Mercedes sighed comfortably squeezing
his brawny tanned bicep that wrapped around her.
“Maybe…,” Mercedes sighed innately beginning to think out loud,
“talking to Ms. P would help?”
After school the following day, Samuel Evans was in Ms.
Pillsbury’s office contemplating and knowing that this session was one hundred
percent bullshit. It wasn’t ninety percent nor ten percent this whole meeting
counseling session was one hundred percent bullshit because he already knew one
hundred percent of himself he wanted and knew he wanted to be with Mercedes.
But with being with her required this session – well…then…yeah…one hundred percent of himself had to be here.
Sam turned his head to Mercedes who was looking out at the counseling door then
at the empty desk in front of them before glancing at him. She was tapping her
fingers on her bag she had placed on her lap. Sam returned a small smile
placing his hand on top of hers – maybe hoping this alleviated some of her
stress on this unnecessary visit. Mercedes gave a small smile, feeling now a
comfort and warmth in his touch and no longer the sudden chill down her spine.
She settled herself in the warm comfort of him that with his touch her eyes
began to flutter down as an infinitesimal breath expelled out her lips. Sam
drew closer to her plump maroon colored lips when soon the sounds of Ms.
Pillsbury’s clicked heels interrupted his attempt.
Ms. Pillsbury walked into her office, and before sitting down,
she wiped her desk and chair with a moistened alcohol towelette before giving
her full attention to Sam and Mercedes. Their session didn’t really take long
once Mercedes told her of their recent situation. She shared a few worries here
and there but Sam resolutely repeated to Mercedes that he doesn’t really notice
those girls – “really all I notice is you,” he spoke calmly. He continued
rubbing his thumb on the top of her hand hoping this and his replies to her
comforted her with his unwavering reassurance. Ms. P took note of Sam’s
heartfelt support of Mercedes as well as Mercedes’ concern of their
relationship. She advised them that communication is always key in any
relationship but for the both of them to understand where each are coming from.
“Now Mercedes you do see and hear that
Sam wants
to be with you?
And Sam, you do hear and understand
where Mercedes is coming from?” Sam and Mercedes confirmed with a small nod.
“Good!” Ms. P clapped her hands and instantly opened one of her desk drawers.
She pulled out two composition books and handed each to Sam and Mercedes. “Now
if one of you has a thought about the other or whatever it may be, write it
down and exchange it every time an entry is made,” she suggests before their
time was up.
Sam and Mercedes walked into the hallway each with a composition
book in hand looking at it quizzically. They didn’t say much just started
walking down the hallway together. However, walking through the hallway after
school had ended, a dark hair beauty in McKinley’s infamous red and white
cheerleader uniform had scoped the two a few feet away and wondered, “what could they be up to?”
